Education is the first step to solving resource issues in our watershed. The citizens of our watershed need to be knowledgeable about our home so that we can make responsible and wise watershed management decisions. Visitors and downstream stakeholders also need to understand our watershed, so that we can all work together more harmoniously. The Pit River Watershed Alliance is committed to ensuring that all stakeholders are well informed of issues facing our watershed.
The River Center in Alturas is opening soon to help fill this need. Broad public and private support for the River Center demonstrates that our community understands the need to reach out to all with the message of watershed stewardship. The River Center will develop new approaches to watershed awareness while it supports and expands ongoing programs conducted by the public schools and by various local, state and federal agencies.
