Similar to most forest ecosystems in the west, private and public forests in the watershed have heavy fuel loads. Land managers and communities are concerned about catastrophic fires that could reduce merchantable timber and threaten people’s lives. Both private and public stakeholders in the watershed have active fuel reduction programs, and local landowners have recently formed “fire safe” community groups.
