With the upper Pit River watershed listed as an impaired waterbody, monitoring is essential to better understand the biological nature of the watershed. With multiple agencies and organizations independently conducting their monitoring programs, it was essential for the Alliance to bring these entities together.

A Watershed Monitoring Field Day was hosted by the Alliance on August 13, 2003. This gathering enabled communication and collaboration on a strategy for monitoring within the Pit River watershed. Monitoring equipment and collection methods were compared. A representative from Yellow Springs Instruments (YSI) was also on hand to demonstrate some new automated equipment.

The field day was a success. Everyone went home with a stomach full of Moe’s Pizza and a better understanding of monitoring efforts in the Pit River watershed.
