Wetlands and Riparian Areas

Wetlands and riparian areas are two habitat types that have declined considerably throughout the west in the last 150 years. The importance of these habitat types is well documented. Among a long list, wetlands provide flood control, ground water recharge, erosion control, and host the greatest diversity of plants and animals compared with any other habitat type. Several private and public programs that enhance and restore these habitats are currently available to land managers. Their enhancement and restoration is vital to a healthy ecosystem, community, and economy.
